Energy Management

Poachers Hideaway is committed to the careful management of energy and water resources. The holiday cottages have very high levels of insulation with double glazing throughout and thick curtains. These features provide a good ambience and reduce the need for heating. For additional warmth and comfort, each cottage heas either a log burning stove or open fire, to further reduce reliance on the oil fired boilers which provide background heating. Logs, which are harvested from the farm woodland, are provided free of charge.

All the cottages have energy-efficient appliances and the main lighting uses low energy bulbs. We are also working to develop our own microgeneration system on the farm using a central woodchip boiler and possibly a small wind turbine

Waste Reduction

Waste water is treated through an eco-digester, a settling tank and a reed bed.

Refuse from the cottages is collected under an environmental contract, who carry out the separation of recyclable and non-recyclabe items.

The Natural Environment

Sensitive management of our local countryside has always been a priority. Flintwood Farm is organicand includes songbird, bumblebee and buttefly habitats.

The farm has herb-rich meadows, wetland and ancient woodland.
