June at Poachers Hideaway
We have a busy time coming up as we have our eldest daughter getting married & celebrating the day at Poachers Hideaway. It will be a cosmopolitan affair with friends travelling from as far away as Australia, Germany, Greece, Italy and Ireland, as well as the UK. Until that day, life continues as normal with cottages booked and people coming & going and enjoying the beauty of our surroundings.
The wildflower meadows are coming into their own & I have noticed several new species that have finally naturalised themselves as the reserves of nitrogen, used before we bought Flintwood Farm, become depleted and allow for native species’ growth to resume.
The chickens are joining the birds in attempting to hatch their eggs & one black hen is particularly keen to become a mother. She pecks me every morning during my search for fresh eggs.
The greenhouse is beginning to be productive and I’m now able to offer salads, new potatoes, strawberries, courgettes and sweet peas to our guests. The tomatoes are some way off but coming along nicely, I have several varieties including the lovely beef ones.
Our donkeys have returned to the seaside, which was a sad day for Ela & myself. They had become very friendly and much more tolerant of the dogs. We had meetings with them at least twice a day and they lent an ear to putting the world to rights whenever needed. They are incredibly sensitive animals and I can’t wait for them to return.
